Everyone must imbibe principles of Jainism, says Yogi
Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday encouraged every Indian to draw inspiration from the principles of Jainism.
Addressing the Vishwa Navkar Mahamantra Diwas organised by the Jain International Trade Organisation in Lucknow a day before Mahavir Jayanti, Yogi said that Jainism spoke of spiritual discipline, self-purification and service to others.
The CM linked UP's spiritual heritage with Jainism, noting that at least five of the 24 Jain Tirthankaras were born in Ayodhya, including Lord Rishabhdev, who was the first Tirthankara and the king of Ayodhya, and one in Varanasi. He encouraged people to practise non-violence and compassion, as embodied by Lord Mahavir.
"UP has been a sacred land for Jain Tirthankaras, with Ayodhya alone being the birthplace of five and Kashi of one. Lord Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankara and king of Ayodhya, was born here, and the teachings of spirituality and meditation spread from this very soil," the CM said.
The event was also addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually. Referring to his speech, the CM highlighted the nine resolutions he spoke about to integrate the Navkar Mahamantra into daily life and urged everyone to adopt them in spirit and practice. He also wished the people of the state on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.
Elaborating on the significance of the Navkar Mahamantra, the CM said that it served as a path to liberation from physical, divine and spiritual suffering. "When individuals align themselves with the spirit of spiritual discipline, self-purification and service to others, they elevate their lives and inspire society and the world at large. The lives of all 24 Tirthankaras were devoted to the welfare of humanity. Their teachings and spiritual practices set a timeless example of righteous living. These principles of Jainism continue to hold deep relevance even today," the CM said.
Talking about the Vishwa Navkar Mahamantra Diwas, the CM said that this was the first time the event was celebrated globally and expressed confidence that this initiative would serve as inspiration for all.
