Mayawati demands action against atrocities on Dalits
Lucknow: BSP National President Mayawati, in her posts on X on Saturday, raised the issue of atrocities against Dalits in UP once again and demanded strict action from the govt to restrain the perpetrators.
"The incidents of atrocities on Dalits in different districts of UP, attacks on their wedding processions, and desecration of statues of their messiah, Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and Gautam Buddh, are a matter of grave concern. The govt should act strictly against culprits and take effective measures to control the crime," she said on Saturday.
At a time when the internal security in the country was challenged by terrorist incidents on the borders, the state govt should effectively restrain anti-social and criminal elements from communal and casteist frenzy, creating tension and spreading violence, she added.
Mayawati called out the desecration of Ambedkar statues and atrocities against Dalits in several states on Ambedkar Jayanti this year. She said, "It is shameful and a proof of the govts' dual character."
She also warned Dalits against dual-faced parties.
