SAVDHAN to improveemergency care at KGMU
Lucknow: King George's Medical University (KGMU) has launched a new training initiative for nurses and paramedical staff to ensure faster and more efficient emergency care for trauma patients.
The course, titled SAVDHAN (Sensitizing And Visioning of Disaster Management in Hospitals And their Notifications), aims to enhance the practical skills and decision-making abilities of frontline healthcare workers during disaster and polytrauma situations.
The programme was inaugurated by vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand. Designed as a 30-hour module spread over two months, it includes lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training in emergency procedures such as patient assessment, resuscitation, stabilization, record management, and medico-legal documentation.
Each batch will consist of up to 20 participants to ensure focused and high-quality training. Trainees will include trauma and casualty resident doctors, non-PG junior residents, and nursing staff. The curriculum covers critical topics such as head injuries, fractures, thoracic and abdominal trauma, and radiological interpretation.
The course will be conducted four times a year. Only those scoring at least 50% in the final MCQ-based exam will receive certification. A dedicated faculty team, including Dr Prem Raj Singh, Dr Somil Jaiswal, Dr Amiya Agrawal, and others, will oversee the sessions.
"By preparing medical staff for real-time emergencies, the SAVDHAN course is set to improve trauma care and strengthen hospital disaster response systems across the state," said Nityanand.
