Ludhiana: In a scathing attack on the ruling AAP govt, Union minister of state for railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, alleged that it had damaged the bureaucracy by using it for vested interests. He claimed that if AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora won the Ludhiana West constituency bypolls, the party would send CM Bhagwant Mann to the Rajya Sabha and remove him from the state. Bittu was in the city on Saturday to participate in a rozgar mela (job fair) to give away appointment letters to youth. PM Narendra Modi gave the letters away through video conferencing.
Bittu claimed that the AAP govt had pulled all stops for the West bypolls because the party's Delhi leadership wanted power in Punjab, for which they would send Bhagwant Mann to the Rajya Sabha. He also attacked CM Bhagwant Mann for "misusing officials" and then suspending or transferring them in a way that some were in limbo, waiting for their appointment to any seat.
On the remarks of Congress MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring about him, he said, "People here are looking for Warring, but he is not going to do anything here. Warring was sent here just to damage me as the Congress party high command was angry with me for joining the BJP." He said that in 2027, Warring would contest from his hometown, Gidderbaha and not Ludhiana, after which people would realise what they had done. Bittu also attributed his loss in the election to a "conspiracy against BJP in villages."
According to Bittu, when former cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu was arrested on several charges, the party left him in the lurch. Even when he was given a clean chit by the court, the party left him alone. "Warring, as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president as well as MP, Ludhiana, has failed to take everyone along, unlike me. When I was MP, I used to take everyone along," he said, adding that he joined the BJP due to these issues.
On the BJP candidate from the West constituency, he said, "Interested leaders have been shortlisted and now, an announcement will be made from Delhi. The election date is also not announced yet. We will make the announcement at the right time." The Rozgar Mela was held at 47 places, and Bittu was sent to Ludhiana, where 75 job letters were given for various govt departments. Over 51,000 job letters were distributed across the country for departments like CPBP, BSF, railways, labour ministry, customs, GST, Income Tax, etc.
