Ludhiana: Meharban police filed a case against three travel agents for duping seven men of over Rs 16 lakh on the pretext of sending them to Romania on work visa. It is alleged that the accused neither sent them abroad nor returned their money.
The accused have been identified as Imran Khan of Ahmadgarh in Malerkotla, his brother Mauji alias Chahat Khan, and an aide, Mohammad Shayid. The FIR was lodged on the statement of Bhagwant Singh of Seeda village, Rahon Road.
Bhagwant Singh said that his brother, Jaswant Singh, wanted to go abroad and met the accused, who claimed to have helped many people go abroad. The accused assured his brother of a work visa for Romania. The complainant added that some of his brother's friends also expressed interest in going abroad. He alleged that the accused took Rs 16.81 lakh from them in advance, while the rest of the amount was to be paid after landing in Romania.
However, he said that the accused failed to arrange visas for them. The accused also refused to return their money, at which they filed a complaint with the police on Oct 29, 2024. ASI Radhey Shyam, who is investigating the case, said that an FIR was lodged following an investigation under sections 318 (4) (cheating) and 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS. The accused are at large.
