Madurai:
Madras high court has dismissed a plea seeking a direction to the authorities to award a car as the first prize to a bull tamer who participated in the Palamedu jallikattu in Madurai district in 2021.
The court was hearing the petition filed by Karthikeyan alias Karuppayurani Karthi. The petitioner sought a direction to the authorities to distribute a car, which was announced as the prize to him since he was selected as the best bull tamer during the jallikattu event conducted in Palamedu in 2021.
Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan observed that the jallikattu was conducted by the organising committee in Palamedu. Although the petitioner was declared the winner of the first prize, he was not provided with a car by the committee. The entire dispute between the petitioner and the committee is civil in nature. Therefore, the authorities have no role to play in the claim made by the petitioner.
If there is any grievance, the petitioner can approach the civil court for appropriate relief in the manner known to law. Therefore, the representation submitted by the petitioner cannot be considered, the judge observed and dismissed the petition.
