MANGALURU: Mangalore University will award 64 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 54 gold medals, and 56 cash prizes during the 43rd Annual Convocation scheduled for Saturday.
The department-wise PhD distribution is as follows: Arts - 12, Science - 38, Commerce - 11, and Education - 3. Among the recipients, 31 (48.43%) are women candidates and 33 (51.56%) are men candidates.
There are men and one woman who are foreign nationals, said PL Dharma, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University. He addressed reporters on Friday to announce details about the 43rd convocation.
Thawar Chand Gehlot, Chancellor and Governor of Karnataka, will preside over the event. Dr MC Sudhakar, Pro-Chancellor and minister for higher education, will be present.
Prof VN Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice President of the Association of Indian Universities and Vice Chancellor of Somiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai, will be the chief guest and will deliver the convocation address. All the PhD degrees and gold medals will be awarded at the main function by the dignitaries this time, said Dharma.
Dharma noted that all undergraduate candidates receiving degrees at this convocation are part of the first batch to graduate under the National Education Policy-2020. A total of 25,387 students appeared for postgraduate and undergraduate university examinations.
Out of this, 18,723 (73.75%) students passed. Among these, 6,897 (36.83%) are boys, 11,826 (63.16%) are girls. In postgraduate programmes, 3,331 students appeared for the examinations, and 3,152 (94.63%) passed.
Among the passed students, there are 907 boys, 2,245 girls. In undergraduate programmes, 22,056 students appeared for the examinations, and 15,571 (70.60%) passed. Among the passed students, there are 5,990 boys and 9,581 girls.
The rank holders in the undergraduate programme are selected from those who scored A+ and above. The pass percentage stands at 70.60% for undergraduate courses and 94.63% for postgraduate courses.
