They were selected under the social service category, said PL Dharma, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University.
Giving out the details to reporters on Friday, PL Dharma said that they received the selection of individuals for Honoris Causa on Thursday evening from the Governor of Karnataka's office, who is also Chancellor of Mangalore University. “All three were selected by the Governor’s office in the social service category,” he said.
Among the three, the first one is Rohan Monteiro, who played a transformative role in Mangaluru’s progress. A dynamic real estate entrepreneur, he founded Property Real Estate and Rohan Corporation at a young age, revolutionising the city's infrastructure.
Beyond business, Monteiro dedicated over three decades to social service, significantly impacting education, healthcare, rehabilitation, culture, and community development. Monteiro’s commitment to education is evident through his support for scholarship programmes led by NGOs in the region.

Through the Navodaya Grama Vikas Charitable Trust, he impacted over 4.5 lakh people across seven districts by establishing 35,178 self-help groups (SHGs) that promote financial inclusion and empower rural women.
Kanyana Sadashiv Shetty, chairman of Heranba Industries Limited, hails from Kanyana, Kuloor village, a small hamlet in Kasaragod district, Kerala, near the Kerala-Karnataka border, and is the third recipient of the award. Shetty began his career in Mumbai and transitioned to entrepreneurship.
