When celebration became tragedy: Boys’ kin in a state of shock
THANE: Family members of Divakar Pandey had tried to persuade him to stay back home when he sought their permission to go on an outing to celebrate his friend’s birthday. However, Divakar chose to defy their warning and he, along with Amitesh Yadav (16) and Sanjiv Yadav (19), was finally gobbled by the high currents in the sea leaving their near and dear ones in deep shock.
Their last rites were performed on Saturday afternoon and the bodies were cremated in Bhavani Nagar in presence of hundreds of relatives, friends and the neighbors.

An inconsolable, Dayashankar Pandey, Divakar’s father, who works as a watchman told TOI, “Divakar’s mother told me he argued with her and his elder brother after they told him not to go to the beach as they have heard that several persons were washed away during the high tides.” Families of both Amitesh and Sanjiv Yadav were also in a state of shock and could not utter a word.
Dashrath Yadav, a local activist, said, “We were told that the bodies of Amitesh and Sanjiv were found at 1am and 2am respectively. Around 7.30am, Divakar’s body was found on the shore.”
