Kerala police team begins probe into seizure of ammunition from pvt bus
Madikeri: A police team from Kerala arrived in Kodagu to investigate the seizure of 150 rounds of ammunition from a bus that began its journey from Kodagu. A man was also arrested by Kerala police for possessing live bullets wrapped in a cloth.
Iritty (Kerala) police officers searched for evidence in Virajpet by examining CCTV footage. A team led by a senior police officer from Kerala, Kutty Krishnan, conducted the investigation. Kodagu DSP Dhananjaya assisted Kerala police in the investigation.
Earlier, a Kerala resident was apprehended and is being interrogated after he was caught red-handed with ammunition. He travelled on a private bus from Virajpet to Kannur in Kerala. Iritty police detained and questioned the suspect after discovering 150 rounds of ammunition, which were wrapped in a cloth and placed in the overhead compartment of the private bus.
According to the police, the bus started from Kutta in Kodagu district on the evening of March 27 (Thursday) and was heading towards Kannur city via Gonikoppa, Virajpet, and Makutta. The Kerala state excise inspection centre in Makutta Kootupole, situated on the state's border, found this ammunition while conducting routine vehicle checks around 3.45pm.
While examining of belongings of passengers in the bus, the team discovered the ammunition. Excise staff immediately alerted the police upon finding suspicious items. Later, Kerala police arrived on the spot with police dogs to conduct a thorough search of the bus. After a two-hour inspection of all passengers, the police dog initially identified three suspects before zeroing in on the suspect, who was subsequently arrested and taken to Iritty police station for further questioning.
