Land surveyor gets 18-month jail for graft
Shivamogga: Shivamogga district court sentenced T Mallikarjunaiah, a land surveyor from Bhadravati, to 18 months in jail, and fined him Rs 30,000 for taking bribe for an official work.
According to MD Sundar Raj, special public prosecutor (SPP), Mallikarjunaiah was convicted for taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 in July 2013. He demanded the money from Basavarajappa, a farmer, to carry out a land survey in Mattighatta village of the taluk. Following the farmer's complaint, Lokayukta police caught the surveyor red-handed while he was taking the bribe from the complainant.
Judge Marulasiddaradya HJ passed the order on Feb 28, the SPP stated.
