Hassan: Forest department officials captured a tusker creating trouble from a coffee estate at Halligadde in Belur taluk on Sunday.
The tusker was damaging properties and it had killed people in the region. The residents of Arehalli staged a massive protest after villager Sushilamma was trampled to death on March 14.
Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre directed an operation to capture the elephant. The officials launched the drive with the help of captive elephants: Prashantha, Mahendra, Ekalavya, Dhananjaya, Harsha and Bheema. Elephant Task Force authorities monitored the movement of the elephant and a veterinarian darted to sedate the animal, according to an officer.
Senior officials, including Subhash K. Malkhede, PCCF (Wild Life), and Chief Wildlife Warden, R Manoj, APCCF (Project Elephant), and others, were involved in the operation, said Deputy Conservator of Forests Saurabh Kumar.
