The makers of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah looked at a variety of perspectives. The 'Bhootni Ka Aatank' narrative remains one of the most well-known, although the sitcom is currently facing criticism for Tapu and Sonu's split. A Reddit user has expressed his wacky explanation for why Dayaben never returned to Gokuldham society.

Disha Vakani played Dayaben, a famous figure. She went on maternity leave in 2017 and finally left the show. The makers have vowed to bring her back on multiple occasions, and talks are still underway. However, that hasn't happened in the last eight years, and there's little chance it will in the future. Asit Kumar Modi and his colleagues have auditioned thousands of females, but none have been able to match Disha Vakani's acting abilities.

A Reddit user proposed a dark theory for why Dayaben did not return to Gokuldham society. The user wrote, “What if Daya’s mom died long ago, and after that, Daya is going through some mental problem where she imagines her mom, Jetha's family don’t know about this, only Sunder knows this, and he stopped Daya at Ahmedabad for her treatment.”

Another person went a step farther with their strange thinking, as they said, “What if Dayaben’s mother died, and Daya and Sundar are hiding the truth by disguising as their mother to run the charity like they show in one episode, and that’s why Daya never came back from Ahmedabad.”

One of them added, "Even Jetha said that he only vaguely remembers what Daya’s mother looks like; in those episodes where she is going to visit Gokuldham society, but it turns out to be Sunder in a saree. What if Daya went to Ahmedabad because she had been spotted as a part of the con, and is on the run?"

A user also pointed at social stigma, "Maybe due to social stigmas, the Gada family is also not telling anyone the real reason and living without her. And keeping the hope of her return alive for the Gokuldham waasis."

A user believed that would open a new track for Jetha and Babita, "It’s one way of wrapping up Daya’s track on the show, possibly clear the way for Jetha-Babita, if Iyer leaves the show too. To be honest, even in the early shows, I never really liked Babitaji, I always thought she was too much of a drama queen plus she looks really bad now."

One of them commented that the writers have been lazy, "New writers are so lazy they are repeating the same line for every character, and very repetitive storyline like Tapu Sonu and Popat Shadi. they even could have made a storyline as daya’s mom going through some major health problem, so she is taking care of her mom. they give such a dumb reason that she is at Ahmedabad for charity for 5/6 years."
