NEW DELHI: Police have solved the murder case of a woman doctor in Nagpur by arresting her husband, also a doctor, and her brother-in-law who had tried to pass off the incident as a robbery-related crime, an official said on Monday.
The incident arose from doubts about the deceased's character and disputes between her and her spouse, Dr. Anil Rahule, an instructor at a private medical college in Raipur.
Police investigations revealed that Dr. Rahule orchestrated a plan to eliminate his wife, Dr. Archana, with his brother, Raju Rahule, who struck her head with an iron rod on April 9.
The victim was employed as an assistant professor in the physiotherapy department at the Government Medical College and Hospital, according to police reports.
"Dr. Anil Rahule used to doubt the character of his wife, which resulted in frequent arguments between them. He would often fight with her and physically assault her," police said.
Officials reported that Dr. Rahule invited his brother, Raju, to their home in Ladikar Layout in Nagpur on April 9.
Dr. Rahule restrained his wife by holding her legs whilst Raju allegedly delivered the fatal blow to her head with an iron rod. Subsequently, the brothers secured the house with the central locking system before departing, according to police.
On April 12, Dr Rahule returned to the residence and raised concerns, prompting police involvement.
Initially, the scene suggested a robbery. However, investigators became wary upon discovering the body's advanced decomposition state, indicating the crime occurred several days prior.
Police suspicions intensified when they noticed Dr. Rahule's anxious behaviour and apparent feigned fainting, the official noted.
"He admitted to killing his wife during interrogation, following which he and his brother were arrested. Police are investigating whether there was any other motive," the official added.
