Nagpur: A Hindu would have never committed a Pahalgam-like act of gunning down people after asking their religion, said RSS Sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday. "Extremists who misinterpret their own faith commit such horrific acts, but a Hindu will never do that. Killing Ravana was the only way to usher righteousness and some elements need to be taught such a lesson," said Bhagwat.
Speaking at a function in Mumbai, Bhagwat said to deal with demons one needs to have strength like Goddess Durga with 18 hands. "We are not only hurt, but angry after the Pahalgam carnage. Why do we have armed forces? The country has already learnt from the debacle in 1962, when it was complacent about war," he said in an oblique reference to the Indo-China war. "Some elements can be convinced, but not evil like Ravana, who need to be slayed," he said. Referring to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's book, Hindutva, Bhagwat said that he had envisaged a Hindu society, which would ultimately be acceptable to even Muslims at a certain point of time.
