MSEDCL installs 1L new electric meters in Nashik Zone
Nashik: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has installed over one lakh new electric meters in residential premises of Nashik Zone since Jan 2025 and offered them a choice of pre-paid consumption.
With deadline for replacement is set to be March 2026, the MSEDCL is installing new meter on a war footing.
Initially, it replaced meters in govt offices and now moved on to replacing faulty meters in residential apartments.
"The target of replacing meters in govt offices has been achieved. We are now replacing meters starting with those who have complaints about faulty meters," said DH Padalkar, Nashik superintendent engineer.
The Nashik circle, comprising Nashik, Sinnar, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Dindori, Niphad and Yeola, alone needs 7 lakh meters and has installed about 80,000.
"The Malegaon circle of Nashik district and Ahilyanagar circle have together installed about 25,000 meters at consumer premises," said another senior officer from Nashik Zone. There are a total of about 16 lakh consumers in the Nashik Zone, comprising Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts.
The officer said the new meters offer choices between the Time of Day (ToD) and the ‘prepaid' facilities. "The ToD tariff was not applicable to residents. Besides, there was no compulsion on the choice of power supply-prepaid or postpaid. After the meters were installed, consumers would be billed as per the current billing system unless they opt for the pre-paid system," said the officer.
As of now, out of 1 lakh consumers, who have had the electricity meters, none have opted for the ‘prepaid' system to date," said the officer.
