Dragon Ball Super anime return still uncertain, But Ultra Ego Vegeta tease surfaces

Fans of Dragon Ball Super have been eagerly awaiting the anime's return for over seven years. While the manga continues to advance with exciting new arcs, including new villains and transformations, the TV series has yet to make a comeback. Recently, the manga has been on a long hiatus, with only one chapter released in the past year. Despite this, there’s still hope for a return, especially with new forms like Vegeta’s Ultra Ego.
One of the most exciting elements fans have been waiting to see animated is Vegeta's Ultra Ego form. This powerful transformation, which rivals Goku's Ultra Instinct, has only appeared in the Dragon Ball Super manga so far. Fans got a small glimpse of the form thanks to Chris Sabat, the English voice of Vegeta, during a panel at the 2025 Puerto Rico Comic Con.
Chris Sabat, known for voicing Vegeta, Piccolo, and other Dragon Ball characters, gave fans a sneak peek of Vegeta’s Ultra Ego during his panel. When asked about his favorite line from the Dragon Ball Super manga, Sabat delivered one of Vegeta's most iconic quotes from chapter #75. In the manga, during the fight with Granolah, Vegeta says, “Kakarot’s body may have a mind of its own, but I’m all ego.” Although this isn’t an official look at the animated version, it’s the closest thing fans have received so far.
The clip of Sabat’s performance quickly went viral, reigniting fans' hopes for the anime's return. The line has sparked renewed calls for Dragon Ball Super to continue and for the Ultra Ego transformation to be showcased on screen.
Since Dragon Ball Super ended in 2018, the anime has been absent from TV screens. Fans have been hoping for new episodes, but there’s still no official confirmation. The Dragon Ball Super manga has also been on hiatus after releasing a special chapter in February 2025.
Despite this, Dragon Ball Super's producer, Akio Iyoku, confirmed that projects are in the works. However, he also noted that nothing is set in stone. Without ongoing manga content, a TV anime return is unlikely at the moment, but the success of films like Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero shows that movie projects are always a possibility.
While fans eagerly wait for more Dragon Ball Super content, the tease of Ultra Ego Vegeta is an exciting glimpse into what could be.
