Nashik Municipal Corporation proposes Rs 3,000-crore road works ahead of Kumbh Mela
Nashik: The civic administration has proposed Rs 3,000-crore road works in the city in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela slated to be held between 2026 and 2028. The projects include the re-laying of about 200km of roads and the development of missing links.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has also decided to conduct a structural audit of the city roads and prepare the detailed project report for the works with the help of technical consultants to ensure adherence to the Indian Road Congress guidelines. The general body of the civic body recently gave its nod to appoint a panel of five technical consultants.
During the previous Simhastha Kumbh Mela held in 2015, NMC developed major roads with a length of 105km, among others. "We have proposed over 200km of roads in the city in view of the Kumbh Mela. The Kumbh Mela plans, including the road development works, have been submitted to state govt for approval. The total cost is estimated at Rs 3,000 crore, which will also include land acquisition for some missing links," a senior NMC official said.
The official said some of the major roads were to be widened too. "We need to make a proper DPR of all the roads in the city as per the ICR guidelines. Hence, a structural audit of all the roads in the city is to be conducted through technical consultants. We are in the process of appointing five technical consultants to conduct the audit and prepare the DPR," another NMC official said.
Apart from developing roads, NMC also decided to construct 11 new bridges on the Godavari river and three other tributaries in the city at Rs 250 crore.
