Emergency on road ? You can soon get help by just waving your hand in Greater Noida
Noida: Emergency call boxes (ECBs), which alert authorities when a person waves their hand in front of the cameras, will be placed at key locations across Greater Noida under the integrated safety and traffic management system (ISTMS).
Greater Noida authority, which plans to roll out the Rs 227-crore ISTMS project this year, will install over 2,700 surveillance cameras at 115 key intersections. On Tuesday, it reissued a request for proposal for the project and listed a host of advanced surveillance features, traffic control and emergency response technologies under the project for efficient traffic management and policing.
OSD Abhishek Pathak told TOI emergency boxes proposed under the project will ensure direct coordination with the emergency control room for urgent situations. "Advanced security feature will enable cameras to send automatic alerts to authorities if a person waves their hand in front of them," he said.
Pink booths—providing women quick access to help in case of emergencies—will be set up at various locations too. In crowded areas, like markets, metro stations and busy road intersections, a public address system will allow officials to make emergency announcements and guide people during traffic disruptions or public safety incidents.
An integrated command & control centre (ICCC)—equipped with large video walls for real-time coordination between different agencies and an AI-powered video analytics system for detecting suspicious activities, unauthorised gatherings and potential security threats—is to come up at Greater Noida authority's headquarters in Knowledge Park IV. It will serve as a nerve centre for monitoring and managing citywide surveillance, traffic movement and public safety operations.
The surveillance camera network will also be integrated with the ICCC and allow real-time monitoring of high-risk areas and traffic hotspots. All nine police stations in Greater Noida will also be connected to the surveillance network, officials said.
The traffic management system will have an adaptive traffic control system (ATCS) that can adjust traffic signals based on real-time vehicle density. Additionally, automatic number plate recognition , red-light violation detection , speed violation detection and traffic violation detection systems (TVDS) will be installed at various key intersections. Variable message display (VMD) boards will also be placed at major junctions to inform commuters about traffic conditions, road closures, alternate routes and emergency alerts. ISTMS will be integrated with police databases for a seamless e-challan system.
The project incorporates a green channel system to allow ambulances, fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles to get priority at traffic signals, helping them reach their destinations faster without being stuck in congestion.
A real-time public information system (PIS) will provide commuters access to traffic updates, safety alerts and emergency notifications through a dedicated mobile application.
It will also be integrated with Emergency Response Services (Dial 112), social media platforms, and existing Greater Noida apps to ensure a fast and efficient communication network between authorities and the public. The project has seen multiple extensions of tender applications since March 2023 because of insufficient suitable bidders. Now, GNIDA has set April 2 as the final deadline for proposals, with the technical bidding set to be opened on April 4.
