Ghaziabad: Residents of Abhay Khand in Indirapuram are facing problems with unregulated traffic along Tiranga Chowk near Lal Kuan and Retailex shopping complex stretch. The situation is further complicated by the proliferation of street vendors and carts in the area.
"While the Retailex shopping complex road is often blocked by residents of the area for their personal parking, the Minaret Road, which is used by vehicles for regular commute, is blocked by several vegetable vendors. This leads to major traffic congestion and commuting problems along the stretch," said Amit Raushan, a resident of Abhay Khand.
Tiranga Chowk to the Retailex shopping complex is about a 16km stretch used widely by residents of several colonies around Indirapuram as well as daily commuters travelling to Delhi.
Rajendra P Joshi, another resident, said when the cart vendors reach the spot, they soon set up stalls along the roadsides, which further exacerbates the problem.
Raushan added that the vegetable vendors in the area are persistent, and despite action from the security guards of surrounding housing societies, they return back to the spot once the security guards leave. "Ever since the markets have been closed, the vendor crowd is increasing in the mandir line up to Tiranga Chowk," said Raushan.
Apart from instances of encroachments caused by the vendors, and traffic congestion, the non-functional streetlights are also an added problem. Meena Bhandari, who also lives in HIG Flats, Abhay Khand, said the streetlight on the road between Abhay Khand and Nyaya Khand in front of the police post has remained broken for more than a month. "I have raised the issue several times, but it is still not being fixed. The road remains completely dark," said Bhandari.
A response from officials is awaited on the matter.
