Ara: A 24-year-old man, who had come home for his cousins wedding from Pune in
Maharashtra, was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at his native Nawadaben village under Gajrajganj police outpost (OP) of Bhojpur district late on Monday night.
Neeraj Kumar, who sustained a bullet injury to his head, piercing through the left side of his forehead, was taken to Sadar Hospital, Ara, where doctors declared him brought dead, according to police sources.
Neeraj worked at a private company in Pune, and had come to his native place to attend the wedding of his cousin Dheeraj Kumar, which was to take place on Tuesday.
Gajrajganj OP station house officer (SHO) Hari Prasad Sharma said on Tuesday that an FIR has been lodged by the family members of the deceased. "They have claimed that neither the deceased nor the family had any enmity with anyone. A probe is underway to identify the culprits and find out the reason behind the incident."
The brother of the deceased, Vipul Kumar, while talking to reporters at the sadar hospital on Tuesday morning, said he had last talked to Neeraj over phone on Monday night, when the latter asked him if their mother had reached their maternal uncle's house to attend the ‘Haldi' ceremony of their cousin. "After I replied in negative, he hung up the phone. After some time, when I called mother and asked her if Neeraj was with her at the Haldi ceremony, she expressed ignorance. Then I went out to look for my brother, whom I spotted lying unconscious about 300 metres away from our house near a canal. I started shouting for help after seeing him bleeding profusely. He was still breathing, but succumbed to his injuries by the time we reached the hospital," lamented the brother.
A police personnel associated with the investigation, who didn't want to be named, said, they are investigating the case from all angles, including the possibility of any love affair-related issue.
