Nitish does not need advice from Mamata, says JD(U)
Patna: Nitish Kumar does not need advice from the West Bengal chief minister, the JD(U) said on Wednesday, referring to the violence in Murshidabad, hours after Mamata Banerjee questioned the silence of NDA partners on the waqf amendments.
Speaking at a conference Muslim clerics in Kolkata on Wednesday, Mamata alleged Nitish and Chandrababu Naidu of betraying the minority community by supporting the waqf amendments in Parliament.
Reacting sharply to her statement, JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said Mamata should take lessons from the Bihar CM.
"In West Bengal, neither the Hindus nor the Muslims feel safe. Today, there is a civil war like situation in West Bengal. The land, which once reverberated with the lines of poets Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, has become synonymous with hatred, animosity and violence. On the other hand, there is peace in Bihar. There has never been any riot or curfew during Nitish rule. All religions and castes are treated equally in Bihar," Rajeev Ranjan said.
Talking about the violence in Murshidabad district of West Bengal in which three persons died, the JD(U) leader said the current situation in the state was due to Mamata's irresponsible statements and failure to bring law and order on track.
Blaming the Mamata govt for its complete failure to deal with the situation, Rajeev Ranjan said, "Mamata's statement that Nitish-ji is standing with NDA for power is only politically motivated because for Nitish, power means service, which he has been doing for all sections of the society."
BJP leader and Union minister Giriraj Singh also questioned the silence of opposition leaders like Congress's Rahul Gandhi, RJD's Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav over the Murshidabad violence. "Why are they not speaking a single word on the Murshidabad violence?" Giriraj asked.
Alleging that Hindus are leaving Murshidabad, Giriraj accused Mamata of trying to turn West Bengal into Bangladesh and surrendering for vote bank politics.
