Patna: Son of a retired deputy superintendent of police (DSP) died by suicide after shooting himself by a country-made pistol at his flat in Patna on Friday night. The deceased,
Neeraj Kumar (40), son of retired DSP Arun Kumar Chaudhary, lived with his family in an apartment at Bandar Bagicha under Kotwali police station area of the city.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and sent the body to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for a postmortem. A forensic team also reached there on Saturday morning and collected evidence. The police recovered the pistol, one empty bullet shell, and a suicide note from the victim's room.
Rajan Kumar, SHO of Kotwali police station, said the incident took place around 11.50pm when all the family members of Neeraj were sleeping. "Hearing the gunshot, they went to his room and found him lying in a pool of blood. He shot himself in the head and died on the spot," he said.
"According to his family, Neeraj was unemployed and struggling with his alcohol addiction. His drinking habits frequently led to domestic disputes. He used to beat up and misbehave with his family members for money. His wife is a teacher in a private school, and the couple has two kids. The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident," the SHO told this newspaper.
In his suicide note, the victim acknowledged his drinking problem, unemployment, and frequent arguments with his wife. He also mentioned purchasing the unlicensed pistol specifically for suicide and stated that no one else was responsible for his actions, police said.
