Kanke dam park set to get 3-crore facelift
Ranchi: Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation (JTDC) has embarked on a renovation project to transform the 4.45-acre park near Kanke dam into a state-of-the-art amusement destination, aiming to boost tourism and revenue generation in the region.
The modern amusement hub will be equipped with water sports, food courts and restaurants.
Under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, JTDC has contracted Kaveri Divya Resorts Private Limited to spearhead the Rs 3-crore renovation project. The private entity, which took charge on September 19 last year, is mandated to complete the transformation and commence operations within a year.
Krishna Kumar, JTDC's state manager, stated, "Kaveri Divya Resorts Private Limited has been awarded a 25-year contract to develop and manage a modern amusement park with contemporary amenities. The agreement ensures an annual revenue of Rs 24 lakh for the corporation, with a 5% yearly increment. The renovation deadline is set for September 2025."
The renovation process has already begun with the demolition of existing structures and removal of trees. A JTDC official said, "While the location holds significant tourist potential, the facility only generated approximately Rs 9 lakh in revenue over the past two financial years."
However, the project faces some challenges. A Kaveri group representative, speaking anonymously, stated, "While this is a flagship project for us, we're experiencing difficulties with the neighbouring vegetable market vendors, who frequently impede the entry of construction materials. We've raised this issue with the tourism department and received assurances of prompt resolution."
The project represents a significant step in Jharkhand's tourism development strategy, aiming to create a unique recreational space that combines entertainment with the natural beauty of the Kanke dam area. The public-private partnership model is expected to ensure professional management while generating sustainable revenue for the state tourism corporation.
