Leaders across parties protest against Waqf Act
Jamshedpur: Leaders from various political parties, religious and social organisations came on one platform to stage a strong protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 of the central govt.
Speaking at the Tahaffuz-e-Auqaf (protection of Waqf properties) public meeting held at Aam Bagan in Sakchi on Thursday, the leaders announced to campaign and fight till the amendments to the Act are withdrawn.
"It is a conspiracy by the Union government to capture the properties of the Waqf and give it into the hands of the private people," said Rajya Sabha member Fauzia Tehseen Khan of NCP (Sharad Pawar).
She said that by removing the ‘Waqf by user' provision and tweaking the Limitation Act 1963, the govt has demolished the very shield of the Waqf Act which protected the properties of the Waqf.
The Rampur MP of Samajwadi Party, Mohibbullah Nadvi, said that the amendments are an onslaught on the religious freedom of the Muslims.
The fact that the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) did not incorporate in the draft the opinions of the overwhelming members invited to the JPC sittings was a testimony of the central government's agenda of usurping the rights of the Muslims community.
Similarly, Karakat (Bihar) MP of CPI(ML) Raja Ram Singh said that Waqf (Amendment) Act of 2025 is no different than that of the three farm laws passed by the govt in 2020.
"The govt has imposed the amended Waqf law on the people without the people concerned to the Waqf demanding for the changes in the law," Singh said.
He said that three farm laws were anti-farmer and the amended Waqf law was anti-people.
"Our party will stage a nationwide protest against the amendments on May 3," he said.
Earlier, All India Muslim Personal Law Board secretary, Mohammad Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, said the amendments to the Act is a bid to bring Waqf properties such as schools, mosques, madarsa, graveyard, hospitals into the control of the govt.
