Mine institute officials meet chief secy over arson
Ranchi: Two days after miscreants torched vehicles at a drilling site of the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute in Chandwa area of Latehar, a delegation of the company met chief secretary Alka Tiwary on Monday to discuss ways to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
Sources said the state assured CMPDI of all support in the operation of its drilling sites, which are meant for the nation's energy security.
On Saturday, armed miscreants had set two trucks, two drilling machines of the CMPDI, and four hired vehicles on fire. They had taken away the mobile phones of the workers. Later, the workers walked on foot for about 20 km to reach their camp and informed their managers.
Earlier, CMPDI managing director Manoj Kumar said, "We are collecting details related to the case. We have sought a meeting with the state govt to discuss measures that the administration could take for the security of our drilling sites. Their expectation from us, including setting up of technological modes for beefing up security and communication, might be taken up."
The police has extended all cooperation to the company after the incident, he added.
CMPDI has seven regional institutes out of which three are involved in various activities including drilling in Jharkhand. The company has five camps and several drilling sites in the state.
The Chandwa case was the first attack at a CMPDI site in past several years. The company has employed private security personnel for its machines at its sites.
