Surat: The Vaghasiya family of Surat donated the organs of Rasila Vaghasiya (58) who went brain dead after developing chest pain on March 18.
Rasila's husband and two sons decided to donate her organs to those in need after Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation inspired them to do so. The Vaghasiya family lives in Sarthana and is involved in embroidery and textile business.
On March 18, Rasila was doing household chores when she suddenly experienced chest pain at 9.30am. Her family took her to P P Maniya Hospital in Kapodra, where she was admitted to ICU under the care of Dr Sanket Thakkar.
After necessary investigations, it was found that there was a blockage in the left side of her brain. On March 19, a team led by Dr Paresh Patel, Dr Jigar Aiya, and Dr Rashesh Patel performed brain surgery on the patient. However, after intensive treatment, a subsequent report indicated brain death.
Dr Thakkar contacted representatives of Jeevandeep
Organ Donation Foundation, who met Rasila's husband, Dhirubhai, and their two sons, Vijaybhai and Kalpeshbhai. The family was informed about the importance of organ donation. Rasila's family agreed to donate her organs.
After necessary govt formalities, Rasila's liver and two eyes were harvested on Sunday. While the liver was sent to IKDRC, Ahmedabad, the two eyes were donated to Lok Drashti Chakshu Bank, Surat.
Gujarat police and Surat police created green corridors for transportation of the organs.
