Man, 60, killed after gang assaults family in flash outrage

Trichy: A 60-year-old man died and three others in his family were injured after a gang assaulted the family with dangerous weapons at Kalluppatti village in Trichy district on Friday evening.
According to sources, a few members of the gang Velmurugan, Inbarasu and Naveen went to the family's house around 7pm on Friday and asked a 17-year-old boy, who knew Velmurugan.
In the meantime, Inbarasu and Naveen, both intoxicated, began fighting with each other. Velmurugan saw the commotion and attempted to take them away. The boy urged Velmurugan to take Inbarasu and Naveen to clear the place soon. Velmurugan became angry with the boy and assaulted him. Inbarasu also threatened him with dire consequences.
After half an hour, Velmurugan, Inbarasu, and Naveen returned to the boy's house with Sathya, Sasi, Saravanan and Karan.
Seeing the gang carrying deadly weapons, the boy hid himself in a neighbour's house. The gang began to assault the other men in the family.
Velmurugan and Inbarasu assaulted the boy's father Kumar while Saravanan and Naveen stabbed the grandfather Subramanian. The gang also injured the uncle Thangavel and another relative Chandru. The neighbours intervened and separated the two sides.
After the assault, the gang fled on motorcycles. The injured were rushed to private hospitals for treatment. Subramanian succumbed to his injuries.
A case was registered at Thottiyam police station based on the boy's complaint. The accused were booked under various BNS sections including 191-1 (rioting), 191-3 (rioting with weapons), 296-b (abuse), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt), 109-1 (attempt to murder) and 103-1 (murder).
Saravanan and Karan have been arrested while others are absconding. Trichy SP S Selvanagarathinam visited the crime scene and directed the police to apprehend others soon.
