Man kills wife, hangs himself

Pudukottai: A family dispute took a tragic turn on Friday when a man allegedly murdered his wife before dying by suicide in Kayampatti in Pudukotai. Police said the deceased, V Rajeshwari, 28, and R Veeramuthu, 35, were daily wage labourers at construction sites.
Frequent arguments, fuelled by Veeramuthu's suspicions about Rajeshwari's fidelity, had strained their relation in recent times. The couple had a daughter and two sons.
Police said the couple had dropped their children at the home of Veeramuthu's mother Lakshmi and left to attend a temple function on Friday night. However, when Lakshmi later went to drop the children at their parents' house on Saturday morning, she found Rajeshwari lying dead with a deep cut wound on the left side of her neck while Veeramuthu was found hanging. Alangudi police have launched an investigation to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the deaths. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination at the govt hospital.
