‘Former live-in partner orchestrated crime for money’
Vadodara: The three individuals accused of kidnapping an IIM graduate in Navi Mumbai have claimed that the crime was orchestrated by the victim's former live-in partner. However, police investigating the case have yet to determine why the accused needed such a large sum of money in a short period.
"All three accused have maintained that the victim, Nikhil Parmar's former live-in partner, Priti Sinha, planned the entire crime. They alleged that Sinha needed the money and planned to trap Parmar in a false rape case. We have not yet established why they required such a significant amount," said a police official involved in the investigation.
The accused, identified as Kapil Rajput, Girish Bhole and Madhumita Potdar, kidnapped Parmar in Feb and demanded a ransom of Rs 12 crore. According to the police, after the abduction, Sinha used to call on Rajput's phone and threaten Parmar with arrest on false rape charges. "She never contacted Parmar on his phone to avoid any direct involvement in the case. The plan was meticulously crafted, with the trio responsible for the abduction while Sinha's role was to intimidate the victim," the police added.
A police team is currently stationed in Navi Mumbai to track down Sinha, who remains absconding. "Once we arrest her, we will have a complete understanding of the case. Parmar's father paid Rs 1.5 crore as ransom to the accused. We have recovered Rs 1 crore so far, and efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining Rs 50 lakh," said the police
Parmar's father, Rajnikant, filed a complaint with Gotri police on March 18, after which officers first arrested Bhole. His interrogation led the police to a flat in Navi Mumbai, where Parmar was being held. During the subsequent raid, Rajput, Bhole, and Potdar were also apprehended from the same location.
