Vijayawada: Film director and producer
Ram Gopal Varma moved the high court on Wednesday seeking to quash the FIR registered against him by the crime investigation department (CID), following a complaint alleging that he incited hatred between different communities through his movie ‘Kammarajyam lo Kadapa Redlu'.
The CID earlier registered a case against RGV after one Bandaru Vamshi Krishna filed a complaint alleging that he posted morphed photos on social media with the intention of creating hatred between two groups.
RGV stated in his petition that the contents of the complaint were false. He claimed that the case was politically motivated to harass him psychologically. He submitted that the movie was released after the
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared it. He noted that there is no point in registering a case in 2024 as the movie was released in 2019. He also stated that the sections included in the FIR do not apply to the alleged offences and sought to quash the case.
