Beerus has been one of Goku and Vegeta’s most formidable foes from the start. Might Dragon Ball’s saga conclude with a clash against the God of Destruction himself? Here’s why fans are convinced Beerus might be the final boss of them all.
Beerus breaks the mold
Dragon Ball might be best known for its intense battle sequences, deity-level power ups and adversaries that take Goku and Vegeta to their breaking point.
The last saga of the last two continuations has escalated the stakes. The danger was Frieza, then Cell, then Majin Buu, then Jiren and so on. Every time, with each crisis, the saviors come back with different faces and different abilities.
That all shifted with 2013’s Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods as yet another column was added to the series with the introduction of Beerus, the God of Destruction. Since then, no villain—not even in Dragon Ball Super—has come close to reaching his level of power. That’s got fans wondering just one thing, though: Is Beerus being saved as Dragon Ball’s ultimate villain?
Beerus – who is Beerus? The god who beat Goku super easy
Beerus was recently introduced in Battle of Gods, where he was presented as a very laid back but scary destroyer. Unlike other villains, he doesn’t shout or rage—he just taps his finger and obliterates planets.
He bested Goku, even after the Saiyan unlocked Super Saiyan God, a transformation believed to be on par with the gods. The 4th surprise, and the most shocking? Beerus wasn’t even going all out. It wasn’t mercy that made food-loving Galactus spare Earth — just his hunger for its food.
3 Beerus Beerus isn’t evil in the traditional sense, but his whims are what makes him extremely dangerous. One slip-up, and the planet is fried.
Is Beerus actually a villain or just doing his job
Unlike most movie villains, Beerus doesn’t destroy for sport. He destroys it because it’s his vocation. As an agent of destruction, he’s meant to destroy planets that threaten the balance of the universe.
That does not mean he is safe. Indeed, Dragon Ball Super established that it was Beerus who ordered the destruction of Planet Vegeta, home of the Saiyan race. Which means Goku and Vegeta’s entire history is linked to what he does—transforming him into a much less neutral arbiter.
Reasons Beerus should be the last villain in Dragon Ball.
Even with Ultra Instinct (Goku) and Ultra Ego (Vegeta), the Saiyans still haven’t come close to reaching Beerus’ level. After a training session together in the new Dragon Ball Super Chapter 102, Beerus is hardly subtle with his words, because he claims he’s still stronger than both of them.
Which makes for an ideal cocktail for a powerful endgame fight. Imagine a climactic battle: Gogeta or Vegito, fueled by god-level energy, duking it out against the strongest God of Destruction.
It wouldn’t simply be a fight. It would be the final showdown, capping off all that the series has spent years leading up to.
A fight with Beerus as the final villain/final mentor
While Beerus going “evil” is a longshot, he might stick around as the ultimate challenge. Especially for the last one, he’s shown a decent amount of contempt, respect, and even fondness for Goku, Vegeta, and Earth.
As he once explained to them:
When you’re bigger and badder than me? I’ll put your name in as the next God of Destruction.Human-written smartparagraph
That means that, if there is a future fight, it wouldn’t be motivated by animosity like their first tussle, but rather a warrior’s challenge — a fight to pass the torch. It would be the Saiyans’ opportunity to once and for all defeat a god.
Questions that could determine if Dragon Ball ends with Beerus
Whether Beerus will go down as Dragon Ball’s last boss officially remains to be seen, but the concept of this new character being the franchise’s swan song is resonating well with fans. He’s been undefeated since his debut, linked to Saiyan lore and still the most impressive force Goku and Vegeta have faced so far.
A final showdown with Beerus would really make Dragon Ball full circle—from Goku’s first divine defeat in Battle of Gods to his most colossal win.
