Operation Sindoor Live Updates: 'India won't give face-saving exit to Pak army chief Asim Munir'

Operation Sindoor Live Updates: Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, explosions were heard near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir early Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the International Boundary in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The attempt took place around 11 pm on May 8.

In a post on X, BSF Jammu wrote, "At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K."

Earlier, multiple sources informed ANI that a Pakistani Air Force jet was shot down by Indian Air Defence systems in the Pathankot sector of Punjab. However, an official confirmation from the government is still awaited, and more details are expected soon.

According to defence sources, the Indian Army also shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The drones were intercepted amid a heavy exchange of artillery fire between Indian and Pakistani forces.

The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff reported that Pakistan attempted to target military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur — all close to the International Boundary. The Indian Armed Forces responded strongly, and no loss of life was reported.

In a post on X, the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff stated: "Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur in proximity to the International Boundary, in Jammu and Kashmir targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones. No losses. Threat neutralised by Indian Armed Forces as per SoP with kinetic and non-kinetic means."

These developments follow India's launch of "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, during which the Indian Armed Forces executed missile strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Indian officials said the strikes targeted infrastructure linked to terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The operation was carried out in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 28 civilians.

Meanwhile, external affairs minister (EAM) S Jaishankar spoke to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and conveyed to him that India will firmly counter any attempts by Pakistan to escalate the situation.

The EAM also had a phone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

Following the phone conversation with Rubio, EAM Jaishankar underlined India's targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism.

Hours after an escalation attempt by Pakistan on Thursday night, United States Vice President JD Vance stated that the India-Pakistan conflict is "fundamentally" 'none of America's business' and unrelated to its capacity to control the situation.

Speaking to Fox News, Vance said that while the United States can urge both countries to de-escalate, it cannot interfere directly in the conflict.

"Fundamentally, India has its gripes with Pakistan. Pakistan has responded to India, what we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit. But we are not going to get involved in the middle they were fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America's ability to control it," he told Fox News.

Vance acknowledged US concerns about the potential for a conflict between nuclear-armed nations and said the administration is working to prevent such an outcome.

"We are concerned about any time nuclear powers colliding and having a major conflict, and what we said and what Secretary Rubio has said and the President has said- is that we want this thing to de-escalate as quickly as possible. We can't control these countries, though," he said in an interview with Fox News.

However, our Indian defense forces swiftly and effectively neutralised the threat. Several areas in Jammu and Kashmir were targeted, but Pakistan's efforts were thwarted by our forces. Operation Sindoor Live: India deploys warships forward as situation at LoC explodes

Amid rapidly escalating hostilities, India struck multiple air defence systems and key targets inside Pakistan after intercepting a wave of missiles and drones launched across the border targeting Indian military installations and civilian areas in the early hours of Thursday and again later that night.

Indian forces destroyed an air defence installation in Lahore and carried out precision strikes on sites in Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, and an area near Karachi.

“Operation Sindoor is fully under way. Pakistan army chief Asim Munir will not be given a face-saving exit,” a senior officer told The Times of India, as India’s counter-offensive continued into the night. The ongoing operations included the forward deployment of Indian warships in the northern Arabian Sea and a total breakdown of the Line of Control ceasefire agreement.

As the conflict continues to unfold, there were unconfirmed reports suggesting India may have targeted Pakistan's capital, Islamabad. Additional claims included the shooting down of two Pakistani JF-17 fighter jets and an F-16, with one Pakistani pilot allegedly captured in Jaisalmer.

In response to Pakistan’s missile and suicide drone attacks targeting 15 Indian military installations across northern and western regions around 1 am, the Indian Air Force deployed Israeli-origin Harop and Harpy kamikaze drones. These loitering munitions operate like cruise missiles, detonating upon impact with enemy radars and targets.

Pakistan resumed its assault as night fell, targeting multiple Indian locations including the Jaisalmer air base, Amritsar, and the military stations of Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur.

“The threats were neutralised...through kinetic and non-kinetic (jamming) actions. There were no losses,” an officer said. (Report by Rajat Pandit)

Operation Sindoor Live: Pakistan resorts to heavy shelling along LoC, woman killed

A woman was killed and two of her family members were injured after Pakistani troops carried out heavy shelling near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, officials told news agency PTI on Friday. The Indian Army responded proportionately to the unprovoked aggression, they added.

According to officials, Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire on Thursday night and targeted civilian areas in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Several areas in Uri, including Silikot, Boniyar, Kamalkote, Mohra, and Gingle, came under intense shelling. The attack damaged multiple structures and forced residents to flee their homes, officials said.

Three members of a family were injured when a shell struck their car near Mohra as they were attempting to escape the bombardment. They were rushed to a hospital, where one of the injured, a woman identified as Nargis Begum, succumbed to her injuries, officials confirmed.

US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on Thursday (local time) that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s main focus is to ensure the situation does not worsen amid rising India-Pakistan tensions.

Speaking at a press briefing, Bruce said the United States has been actively engaging both nations in peace talks and stressed the importance of communication.

"The real focus of the Secretary of State is that this should not escalate. This has been a key framework. This has been an issue for decades and with what we saw over the last few weeks, after the terrorist attack. It was not surprising but very, very disappointing. It should not escalate and communication was fundamentally key that there should be talks, there should not be silence, and that America was at the center of this in speaking with a variety of leaders of both countries over the last two days," she said.

Bruce added that the United States is collaborating with India across several intergovernmental levels.

"There's some discussion that Pakistan wants an independent investigation as to what has happened regarding the terrorist attack. We want the perpetrators to be held accountable and are supportive of any efforts to that end. We continue to urge India and Pakistan to work towards a responsible solution in this," she said.

Following India's successful execution of the counter-terror operation codenamed 'Operation Sindoor' in Pakistan and PoJK on Wednesday, a major terror hub in Bahawalpur city of Punjab was destroyed.

Bahawalpur has long housed the Markaz Subhan Allah, active since 2015, which is the main training and indoctrination centre of Jaish-e-Mohammed and serves as its operational headquarters. The facility is associated with various terrorist plots by JeM, including the Pulwama attack of February 14, 2019.

It includes the residences of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, de-facto chief Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Maulana Ammar, and other family members of Masood Azhar. Masood Azhar has frequently used this base to deliver anti-India speeches and calls to jihad. JeM regularly conducts arms training, physical conditioning, and religious indoctrination at Markaz Subhan Allah.

During a press briefing in Delhi on Wednesday, foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh explained the objectives of the operation. A total of nine terror locations in Pakistan, including five in PoJK, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, were struck with precise planning to prevent civilian casualties.

Colonel Qureshi elaborated on the targeted sites, stating that the four terrorist camps eliminated in Pakistan were Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya.

She also confirmed the destruction of Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, located 100 kilometres inside Pakistan, stating, "It was the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed, targeted by Indian Armed Forces."

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh outlined the strategic objectives of the operation, stating, "'Operation Sindoor' was a retaliation to the horrific Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 to serve justice to the innocent victims and their families. Nine terror camps were targeted and destroyed."

She said that Pakistan has maintained a complex terror infrastructure for the past thirty years, consisting of 21 recruitment, indoctrination, and launch-pad centres throughout Pakistan and PoJK.

"The targets for Operation Sindoor were based on credible intelligence inputs and locations that were so selected to avoid damage to civilian infrastructure and loss of civilian lives," Singh added, highlighting the operation's precision.
