For every budding talent, recognition of any kind is welcome. But when it's about the most prestigious Oscars, the thrill doubles. Actress Srestha Banerjee is on cloud nine after receiving the news that her short film, Saving Chintu, co-starring
Adil Hussain among others, has been selected for nomination in the Oscars from India.
"It's an exhilarating feeling.
But right from reading the script and the making, along with the fact that it has Adil da, I was sure that this short is special. There are three other films competing with us," said Srestha.
Keith Gomes’ Shameless, Tushar Tyagi’s Saving Chintu and Shaan Vyas’ Natkhat are aiming for nominations in the live action short category, and Saurav Vishnu’s Tailing Pond in the documentary short subject category.
Stestha, who is not a trained actor, has been consistently discovered by good directors and productions for her work. "People would like to attach the work of destiny to my story. But it is really my hard work. I happened to do a photoshoot for some college students in Delhi and got spotted in 2017. One work led to the other. I know I am not a great actor. But now that I am well-known in the national and international short film, web series and ad film circuit, I know my professionalism came in handy," she said.
Born in Ranchi and brought up in Delhi and the
Middle East, the probashi bangali actress is a school teacher and manages her acting alongside her main staple. "I continue to teach English to plus two students. My focus is on being a part of good content even if it is a minuscule role. In the past, I have been able to make a mark with small roles in important productions. I am sure my students look me up on social media. So, they should come across work that is inspiring. My school has been extremely supportive all this while," said Srestha who was seen in many popular web and ad films recently and has her hands full with future projects.
