Dhritiman Chaterji says he would love to see more of Dipankar De on the Bengali screen Priyanka Dasgupta He did Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Black" and, now, Dhritiman Chatterji will soon be seen in Sriram Raghvan's "Agent Vinod". Ask the veteran actor why he chose to do the film and he says, "I loved Sriram's work. I had watched "Ek Haseena Thi" and I appreciated his work in the thriller genre.
When I was approached for "AV", I agreed to do it because it was Sriram's film. I knew his work. As an actor, I enjoy working with people who I think are different and exciting to work with. It was the same when I worked with
Avik Mukhopadhyay for "Ekti Tarar Khonje" and later, for "Carnival". There is a certain sense of comfort level that is regardless of whether they are doing mainstream or non-mainstream cinema." But isn't it a little intriguing that most of his recent film outings have him in a negative role? What's a greater irony is the fact that he is more commonly referred to as Sundar (which means beautiful in Bengali) in Kolkata? "The fact is that all these roles are layered.
They are not like regular villains. For me, they are all real flesh and blood people. I enjoy portraying the complexity in the layers." Having done interesting work on screen, is there any genre that he would like to attempt? "The two genres that I love are thriller and comedy. Comedy is an impossibly difficult genre and it is very difficult to direct one. I wish, I did a comedy in Bengali." And is there any actor in Bengali cinema whose potential, he thinks, hasn't yet been utilized properly? "I wish, I saw more of Dipankar (De) in cinema since I have a great deal of respect for him as an actor. I wish, I saw Anusua Muzumdar, whom one sees in serials, more in real good substantial cinema. So is it for Ananya Chatterjee."
