Kanchan Mullick couldn’t believe his ears when Sayantan Ghoshal called him to tell he will play Tenida in his next film, Jau Banglor Rohashya. “When I was shooting for Sagar Deepa Jhokher Dhaan, Sayantan told me that he wants to make a film on Tenida, I casually asked him who he was planning to cast as Tenida and I was bowled over when he took my name! I joked that if he suggests my name to anyone, he will run away.
And the discussion ended there. Just a few days back, I got a call from Sayantan asking me about my schedule so he can lock my dates for the shoot. He will project the story in a contemporary way. Nispal (Singh) has agreed to produce the film. I was speechless for few minutes as playing Tenida is not easy. Chinmoy Roy played it years back and after that, I don’t reckon anyone playing it. Tenida is associated with a lot of Bengali sentiments and as a character, it's literary value is huge. I have heard Gaurav Chakrabarty is also part of the cast,” said the actor.
Kanchan just completed shooting for Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s Teko and Hullor. “In Teko, I play a lawyer and the character has a lot of shades. In Hullor, my character is that of a constable and it has comic shades,” he said, adding, “I am happy to work in Biplab Banerjee’s film where I share the screen with Bratya Basu, Supriyo Dutta, and others. The film revolves around Bratyada and I play his brother.”
Theatre will always be Kanchan’s, first love. “I am part of three theatres at present- Mirjafar, Magon Rajar Pala and Ekdin Aladin. And it is my dream to be part of Hamlet in the near future,” said the actor.
