Saibal Banerjee and Leena Gangopadhyay’s latest offering ‘Sanjhbati’ which released in December today stepped into 50 glorious days at the box office. It’s a half-century for a relatable story that’s becoming familiar now. With more and more children settling elsewhere in the country or abroad, their parents are often left alone at home and the empty nest syndrome all of a sudden looks too real.

Paoli Dam who plays one of the leads in this touching family drama can’t thank her fans and followers more. She feels like over the moon!
Produced by Bengal Talkies, ‘Sanjhbati’ tells the story of an elderly woman, Sulekha (Lily Chakraborty), who lives with her domestic help, Phuli (Paoli Dam) and caretaker, Chandu (Dev). Trouble arises when a local promoter’s goons start pestering her to leave her house.
Lily Chakraborty’s performance as Sulekha is highly endearing. Soumitra Chatterjee, as Sulekha’s old friend Chhanada, is also at the top of his game. While Dev gives a calm, collected and measured performance as Chandu, a world away from his ‘superstar’ image, Paoli’s acting and diction as a maid, too, is spot on. Anupam Roy’s music is also praiseworthy.
