Kingsley romances wife in Taj's lawns
A few days ago, the Taj Mahal was visited by a cutesy couple who looked like any other tourists being awed by the monument of love.
Only, this was no ordinary couple – it was Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley, better known in India as Gandhi, and his Brazilian wife Daniela Lavender.
Love Taj-Kal
In between posing for the shutterbugs, Ben suddenly said, “I feel like singing a song for my wife!” Daniela immediately moved closer to him and planted a peck on his cheek.

Next, Ben sat her on his lap and returned the gesture, and even knelt down on his knees to kiss her hands! Daniela smiled and said, “I’ve wanted to see the Taj for a long time. I think it was built with two goals – perfection and beauty. Now with the making of the film, Taj, people will know about love and pain.”
Agra Rendezvous
Sir Ben and Daniela flew to Agra from Goa where they were attending the IFFI. They drove to The Mughal Hotel, ITC, straight from the airport, and were given a warm welcome by the staff. Said Kuldeep Bhartee, general manager of The Mughal, “We got to know this morning that Sir Ben Kingsley and his wife would be here. They’ll be having lunch with the mayor of Agra , Anjula Singh Mahor, and her family.”
Stepping down from his van, Ben said, “It’s lovely to be here in India. This is my second visit to Agra but I’m happy for Daniela as it’s her first visit.” Daniela, dressed in jeans till now, said in a thrilled tone, “Wait, let me go and change quickly. It will be my first experience of wearing an Indian outfit!” In a few minutes, she looked transformed in a kurti and churidaar, with matching accessories.

Filmi ideas
After lunch, the Kingsleys proceeded to the Taj. On setting her eyes on it, Daniela said, “I’m totally shocked... I never imagined that the monument was so beautiful. There’s a wonderful energy as I enter the Taj. The place attracts, it is love, isn’t it?”
Ben added, “It’s great to visit the Taj for the second time, although this time the experience is different as I’ve come for work. Everyone will identify with Taj because it’s universally so popular, and my idea is to do a cross cultural movie. We’re trying to examine the energy, the passion, the emotion and joy, and the pain behind the remarkable monument.” Ben and Daniela spent an hour inside the Taj Mahal before finally walking out. Daniela was heard telling Ben, “Baba, (as she lovingly calls him), it’s incredible to see the fine work on the walls. How can a building like this be done in the 17th century? It’s a miracle.”
Nostalgia
After a long day, Daniela still looked fresh, but also became a little emotional. She said, “I first met my husband in LA. I admire him because he is a good husband, a good actor and a good human being.”
