Meghan Markle discusses postpartum pre-eclampsia and motherhood challenges in her new podcast as she recalls the 'scary' experience

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, revealed the ‘scary experience’ of postpartum pre-eclampsia, highlighting the realities faced during motherhood in the new podcast series released on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
In the podcast ‘Confessions of a Female Founder,’ Meghan invited the Bumble Founder, Whitney Wolfe Herd, and spoke about how both of them faced the rare and potentially life-threatening disease.

“We both had very similar experiences, although we didn't know each other at the time, with postpartum, and we both had pre-eclampsia,” the actress expressed. “It's so rare and so scary, and you're still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world doesn’t know what's happening. Those things are huge medical scares,” Markle added, according to Hello!
“I mean life or death, truly,” Whitney claimed.
According to the Mayo Clinic, ‘Pre - Eclampsia’ is a life-threatening condition marked by high blood pressure and excess protein in the urine shortly after giving birth.
Following the reveal, Whitney appreciated the strength of the Duchess as she handled being a new mom and the condition while the whole world was awaiting the debut of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s child, Archie. “I was either just becoming or about to become a new mom, and I was like 'Oh my god, how is this woman doing this? How is this woman putting on heels and debuting a child in this beautiful outfit in front of the entire world?” Herd expressed.
Furthermore, the 'Suits’ actress voiced out the importance of becoming a mother during the pandemic. “I don't leave the house to go to an office; my office is here,” Meghan recalled.
Markle balanced work-from-home and her home life during the pandemic.
“Lili still naps; she gets picked up early and she naps, she only has a half day in preschool. If she wakes up and she wants to find me, she knows where to find me, even if my door is closed to the office. She'll be sitting there on my lap during one of these meetings with a grid of all the executives…I wouldn't have it any other way,” she claimed, highlighting that she did not want to miss the precious moments.
Consecutively, Meghan recalled the first moment when Whitney met her elder child, Archie, and his endearing reaction to cowboy-themed New Year outfits. The ‘Bumble’ founder mentioned that her parties - are not bashing or night out of any sorts. “I'd call it an 'East Coast New Years' so that ball is dropping for our 9 p.m. and I'm going to bed. But you guys came over with our other friends, and it was the first time we'd met the two of you,” she further stated.
Responding to cowboy-themed parties, Meghan addressed that the imprint of a cowboy has been ingrained in Archie’s mind, admiring the little boy and their friendship.
