Yuh-Jung Youn took home the prestigious Academy Award for her feisty performance of a grandmother in ‘Minari’. "Mr.
Brad Pitt, finally. Nice to meet you. Where were you when we were filming? I’m very honored to meet you," Youn started off as she accepted the award from Brad Pitt, who is also the executive producer of ‘Minari’. Expressing disbelief, she wondered, “How can I win over
Glenn Close?" and further added, “We are the winners for different movies....
we can't compete with each other. I had a little bit of luck. I'm luckier than you! Also, maybe American hospitality for a Korean actor. I'm not sure!"
Yuh-Jung Youn also dedicated the award to her kids and shared, “I'd like to thank my two boys, who make me go out and work... this is the result because Mommy works so hard.” Yuh-Jung Youn’s acceptance speech has won over the netizens and Twitter is in awe of her!
With this win, Yuh-Jung Youn has become the first Korean actress to have won the prestigious Academy Award and second Asian actress to win in the category after more than four decades after Japanese-born Miyoshi Umeki won the trophy for 1957's ‘Sayonara’.
