Director Ryan Coogler is making a comeback to original storytelling with his latest film titled Sinners, which is all set to release in theatres on April 18, 2025. After spending years working on well-known franchise movies, Coogler is now returning to a fresh and unique story of his own. The movie will be released by Warner Bros. and promises to be a thrilling experience filled with supernatural elements.
The film's story centres on twin brothers who face a mysterious and dangerous dark force in their hometown. Early rumours had hinted at the film being a vampire story, and those rumors have now been confirmed. The movie combines the mystery of the supernatural with a strong emotional connection to home and family, aiming to create a suspense-filled yet heartfelt viewing experience.
Actor Michael B. Jordan plays both of the twin brothers—Smoke and Stack. This marks his fifth project with Coogler, showing a strong creative partnership between the two. Jordan’s dual role is expected to bring depth to the story as he portrays two very different personalities facing the same eerie threat.
The main villain, Remmick, is played by Jack O’Connell, while Delroy Lindo takes on the role of Delta Slim, who is seen as a heroic figure in the local community. Other cast members include Omar Benson Miller as Cornbread, along with Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li, and Miles Caton, all playing key supporting roles.
The movie is not just about the story—it also brings back several of Coogler’s trusted collaborators from past projects. These include:
  • Autumn Durald Arkapaw as Director of Photography
  • Hannah Beachler as Production Designer
  • Michael P. Shawver as Editor
  • Ruth E. Carter as Costume Designer
All of them have worked with Coogler on earlier hits and are known for adding powerful visuals and style to his films. The music for Sinners is composed by Ludwig Göransson, who is also an executive producer on the project.
Speaking about reuniting with his Black Panther director, Jordan said in a statement, "I think what makes it so satisfying and enjoyable is the comfort of it all and the trust, knowing that it’s going to be an enjoyable experience while also pushing me beyond my comfort zone. We’re constantly trying to grow, from project to project, and throughout our professional careers. We get along so well, because he’s somebody I’ve known for a really, really long time. And when you’re working with your friends—you don’t ever want to let them down. The fact that he thinks about you for a certain project that’s really personal to him, that means a lot to him, and he trusts you to deliver the message. To be a part of that process, you take it seriously, because that means a lot. So, it’s all of the above, plus, he’s somebody you kick it with when you’re working or not."
Fans of Ryan Coogler’s early work, especially Fruitvale Station, are excited about Sinners, as it marks his return to deeply personal storytelling with original characters and a unique storyline. With a mix of horror, action, and emotional drama, Sinners is expected to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year.
