Actor Bella Ramsey recently opened up about a very emotional moment they had while filming the latest episode of 'The Last of Us'.
Bella admitted that a particular scene in the episode titled "The Path" was the hardest for them to perform because it involved crying, something they find very difficult to do on camera.
In this episode, after Dina (played by Isabela Merced) shares important information, Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey) prepares to address the town council. At the same time, a religious group tries to escape a war near Seattle, raising new questions about the dangers ahead. One of the emotional highlights was when Ellie mourns Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) by smelling his jacket, a scene that required deep emotional expression.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Bella said that filming the scene where Ellie cries in a closet was extremely challenging. They explained that crying in front of people, especially on a busy film set with monitors and crew watching, felt almost impossible. Bella mentioned that even in real life, very few people have ever seen them cry.
They also shared that getting a tear out is manageable for them, but truly crying for a scene is much harder. Bella tried different techniques in the past, like thinking about sad personal experiences, but found that it took them out of the character’s moment. Instead, they chose to remember the happy memories they had with Pedro Pascal while shooting season one of 'The Last of Us'. Bella said thinking about those joyful moments and then imagining them as memories of someone lost helped them connect emotionally to the scene.
Bella further explained that the sadness came not only from the story between Ellie and Joel but also from their real-life bond with Pedro. Since their friendship is deeply linked to their on-screen relationship, recalling those times helped Bella deliver the emotional performance needed for the scene.
In related news, Bella also recently talked about not matching Ellie's physical appearance from the video game and shared some details about their green rider requirements in their contract.
