Director
Pan Nalin is in the limelight since the announcement of his directorial 'Last Film Show' ('Chhello Show') ) has been picked as India’s official entry to the Oscars.
However soon after the announcement of the trailer, the filmmaker faced several allegations from the industry that the movie is inspired by or is a copy of the Oscar-winning Italian film Cinema Paradiso (1988).
Pan Nalin recently while talking to a media house reacted to the allegations and stated that the claims don't bother him.
Pan says that the allegations do not bother him at all because he knows he has made an honest film and everyone who has known him over the years knows his story. This was something the director had never planned to do, but it was destiny. The film is inspired by his childhood, and all the projects he used to do. Pan has even shot where he grew up. The audience will see elements from that and will see the cinema where the director first watched the movie, the makers also sort of refurnished the place for the film. The director has used a lot of references from his childhood.
Adding more, he stated further that for Gujarati, the galla (pocket money box) where they keep money is very important, Pan's father would keep it too. They brought that too in the movie. For Pan, it is a very personal story and, because it is a cinema about cinema, there was no way he could have escaped talking about the cinema that he loves, and so many filmmakers that inspire him. Be it Rajnikant or Manmohan Desai, the film world is so big, and he himself thought this is his lifetime chance to make a film like this. The director thinks people should just go watch the film as it will do all the talking.
The director also shared that the team was pleasantly surprised and hoped more and more jury members could watch the film. The 'Last Film Show' will be released in India on October 14.
