Rajkummar Rao and
Bhumi Pednekar are winning hearts and rave reviews for their latest film 'Badhaai Do'. The film that was among the first few to open exclusively in theatres this year, earned an estimated Rs 1.65 crore nett collection at the domestic box office.
While the film saw a slow start to its collections in the morning, the evening and night shows saw a good jump, all thanks to the positive word of mouth and rave reviews from film critics.
According to boxofficeindia.com, the film earned an estimated Rs 1 crore nett from the Mumbai and Delhi/UP circuits. Trade experts state that the halting of night shows in most states have also had an impact on the film's collections.
Given the star cast, the subject and the current times, people have still gone to the theatres to catch the film on the big screen. The jump in collections from the evening shows indicate that numbers could rise over the Valentine's weekend.
What is very positive is that families have started to show up along with the youth which is viewed as a positive sign for theatre chains.
The film tells an unconventional story about a lesbian woman and gay man who decide to marry each other as a setup to appease their parents. Considering that the film touches upon an LGBTQIA+ love story and that the Indian audience has not always warmed up to the subject, the box office numbers are considered to be good.
Backed by Junglee Pictures, ‘Badhaai Do’ has been directed by Harshavardhan Kulkarni and written by Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary.
According to the latest reports, the film is all set to release in the UAE. After receiving the Censor certificate, the movie will have only night shows in UAE for persons above 21 years of age.
