India's off-spinner R Ashwin on Wednesday shocked the cricketing world by announcing his retirement from international cricket. What seemed to surprise fans was that the announcement came in the middle of the ongoing Test series against Australia.
The 38-year-old retires from the game as the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 537 scalps in 106 games, placing him only behind the great Anil Kumble (619 wickets) in the overall statistics.

Joining the multitude of fans in wishing the cricketer the best for the future, was Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, who took to her Instagram Stories to pay a heartfelt tribute to the star bowler.
Sharing the Indian Cricket Team’s official video of Ashwin announcing his retirement, Anushka tagged Ashwin and wrote, “A lasting legacy,” adding a heartfelt note to honour his contribution to Indian cricket. She also tagged his wife, Prithi Ashwin, sharing a hug and heart emoji, symbolising her warmth and respect for the couple.
The clip included moments of the cricketer interacting with his teammates in the dressing room and exchanging warm gestures with Australian players, marking the end of an era.

Anushka, is known to share a great bond with the members of Indian cricket team. The actress is known to accompany the boys in blue and is a regular at the matches to watch her hubby Virat Kohli in action. Over the years, she has often been spotted in the stands cheering for the team and even joining them for team parties and other fun events.
Since taking a step back from after 2018's 'Zero', the star has turned her focus on her personal life, prioritising family time with Virat and their two children, Vamika and Akaay. While she has not been seen in front of the camera for a while, she has been pursuing her production ventures.
Meanwhile, the couple has the media and fans guessing about their rumoured move to the UK. While the couple is said to have relocated to London, neither has publicly confirmed or denied the same.
