Hansal Mehta recently delved into his personal journey during an interview on Unfiltered by Samdish. In this candid conversation, he discussed the challenges he faced, including a period of excessive drinking, and how his second wife, Safeena Husain, played a pivotal role in his recovery.
Hansal Mehta reminisced about a trying phase in his life between the age of 25 and 30, marked by personal and professional difficulties. His films weren't performing well, his marriage had faced turmoil, and he was grappling with the responsibilities of parenthood. During this time, he admitted to turning to alcohol, describing it as a "big, vicious thing" that had taken hold of his life.
The turning point came when he met Safeena Husain, his current partner. Safeena's influence brought a sense of stability to Hansal's life, encouraging him to confront his drinking habits. She candidly questioned him, asking, "Kitna peete ho tum?" (How much do you drink?), which compelled him to reevaluate his relationship with alcohol. While Hansal acknowledged that he still enjoys drinking, he has adopted a more responsible approach, ensuring that it does not hinder his work or focus.
Hansal Mehta's transformation, both personally and professionally, became apparent after he met Safeena. Their relationship marked a period of stability and change, ultimately leading to a healthier lifestyle. Hansal shared that he now finds joy in his work and has developed a renewed focus on his career since the release of "Shahid" in 2012.
Last year, Hansal Mehta and Safeena Husain celebrated their wedding, an unplanned and intimate ceremony in the United States. The couple, who had been together for 17 years and have two daughters together, decided to take this significant step, marking a new chapter in their journey together.
