Veteran Hindi and Marathi film-theatre actor Viju Khote passed away on Monday due to multiple organ failure. The noted actor, who is quite popular for the roles he played on celluloid, was aged 77. Khote breathed his last at his home in South Mumbai due to multiple organ failure. The last rites of the actor will be performed at Chandan Wadi around 11 am.
With a career spanning around six decades and more than 300 films to his credit, Khote is a well-known face in both Bollywood as well as Marathi film industry.Not only on the big screens, but the actor is also popular for his successful stint in television. The actor has been working in the film industry since 1964.

Sholay

Viju Khote is best remembered for his role as the dacoit Kalia in the Ramesh Sippy’s 1973 classic 'Sholay' which starred Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra in the lead roles. The actor played the close associate to Amjad Khan’s character Gabbar Singh in the film. Khote's role in remembered for one of the most popular dialogue in the Hindi cinema "Sardar maine aap ka namak khaya hai."
Andaz Apna Apna

Khote played yet another iconic character in a comic role in Aamir Khan and Salman Khan's 1994 cult comedy film 'Andaz Apna Apna'. His character Robert played the sidekick to Shehzad Khan’s character Bhalla and was known for the famous dialogue "Galti se mistake hogaya."
Nagina

Viju Khote played the character of Singh in the 1986 film 'Nagina' directed by Harmesh Malhotra. The film starred Sridevi in the lead role, who plays a Nagini who avenges the death of her husband. The film also featured Rishi Kapoor, Komal Mahuvakar, Amrish Puri, Sushma Seth, and Prem Chopra. Khote is remembered for the famous scene in which he attacks Sridevi in the film.
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak
Viju Khote is also remembered for his role of Maan Singh he played in the 1988 Mansoor Khan directorial musical romance film 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. The film starred Aamir Khan along with Juhi Chawla in the lead roles. The film was one among the popular movies which defined the era of 90's Hindi cinema.
The actor is also known for playing roles in 'Qurbani', 'Karz' and 'Phir Hera Pheri'.
Khote was last seen in the 2018 comedy film 'Jaane Kyun De Yaaron'. His recent film appearances also include 'Golmaal 3', 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge' and 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani'.
