After the re-release of the romantic drama 'Sanam Teri Kasam' on February 7, 2025, this has led to enthusiasm regarding a potential sequel. However, there also has been a public dispute over the film's intellectual property rights between producer
Deepak Mukut and directors
Radhika Rao and
Vinay Sapru.
Producer Deepak Mukut has asserted that he holds the exclusive rights to produce a sequel or prequel to 'Sanam Teri Kasam.' As per a Bollywood Hungama report, he expressed his frustration regarding the directors' announcement of a sequel without his authorization, stating that he has not finalized any director for the project and has not discussed it with Radhika and Vinay. Deepak Mukut had previously announced a sequel in September 2024, featuring
Harshvardhan Rane reprising his role, but this was done without involving the directors.
During an interview with News18 Showsha, the actor 41 year old actor revealed that a director is yet to be locked. Harshvardhan described himself as a channel for this project and the importance of responsibility in delivering a sequel that meets fans' expectations.
Harshvardhan Rane expressed his eagerness to see the sequel come to fruition. He shared that he is even willing to take action to hasten the process, even suggesting that he might gather fans to hold placards outside Mukut's office to advocate for the sequel.
"Step one was me posting on social media for Sanam Teri Kasam to get re-released. Step two was, standing below Deepak sir’s office. Step three was getting the film finally re-released. Step four was the desire to see a house full board outside cinema houses because that's something that I’ve never seen in my career. And the final step is the fifth one where you’ll find me standing below his office once again, requesting him to make part two. I've no awkwardness about it. I'm ready to do it," he said.
He also shared that the sequel lives up to the original film's legacy. Harshvardhan stated that getting the right director is crucial, as they need to understand what audiences are looking for in a continuation of the story. He likened the roles of producers and directors in filmmaking to that of parents providing for their children.
