Actor Malavika Mohanan recently spoke about women’s safety in Mumbai during an interview. She said that since she now has her own car and driver, she feels safe in the city. However, she admitted that the situation is different for women who travel alone and that safety can sometimes depend on luck. Malavika also recalled an unfortunate incident she faced a few years ago while traveling on a local train.
Safety Often Depends on Luck, Says Malavika
During a conversation with Hauterfly, Malavika spoke about women’s safety in Mumbai. She said people often call Mumbai safe for women, but she feels that’s not always true. Now that she has a car and driver, she feels safer. But back in college, when she traveled by bus and train, she didn’t feel the same. She added that back then, safety often depended on luck, and travelling always felt like taking a risk.

The Shocking Train Incident
Malavika recalled a scary incident from her college days when she was returning home with two close friends on a local train around 9:30 pm. They were in the first-class compartment, which was nearly empty. As they sat near a window, a man suddenly approached the grill, pressed his face against it, and made an inappropriate comment. The girls were shocked and froze, unsure how to react. She shared how, at that age, fear takes over, and you don’t know what to do—especially when you worry the person might try to enter the train.

Every Woman Has a Story
Malavika shared that almost every woman who uses public transport has faced similar experiences. She said if you ask them, they’ll have many such stories to tell, proving that no place ever feels completely safe for women.
Fans will soon see Malavika Mohanan sharing screen space with Prabhas in the upcoming Telugu film The Raja Saab.
