P C Chandra Purashkar for Bismillah Khan

kolkata: legendary shehnai maestro ustad bismillah khan was on sunday conferred the p c chandra award for his outstanding contribution to hindustani classical music. at a ceremony here on sunday, the award, which consists of a plaque and a cheque of rupees one lakh, was handed over to the maestro by the city-based p c chandra group chairman jahar lal chandra.manna dey, pt bhimsen joshi, mahashweta devi, rakhee gulzar and sunil gavaskar have recieved the award earlier. on receiving the award, the maestro said that music unifies people of all castes and creed and transcends beyond boundaries. noted parliamentarian somnath chatterjee was also present on the occasion.
